Ronald Strickland, Ph.D., LCSW has been employed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at the Department of Veteran Affairs since 1/January 2013. He received his B. A. in Psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1991. He then received an M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work from Boston College in 1997. He did his clinical internships at the Whitman Counseling Center and conducted research for Harvard’s Medical School prior to relocating to Las Vegas in 1999. He was employed by the State of Nevada’s Mental Health and Developmental Services from 2000-2013. He was instrumental in developing the Mental Health Court program in Las Vegas in 2003. Ronald was an Adjunct Faculty member from 2013-2015 for the School of Social Work at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. He went on to earn his Ph.D. in Public Affairs at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 2015. His dissertation was entitled: Citizen Participation within Mental Health Planning and Advisory Councils. Dr. Strickland has spent the last 18 years working with psychiatric patients in various settings that have included the foster care, mental health and correctional systems in Nevada. His interests include mental health assessment/treatment, policy formation and implementation, state and federal mental health care policy, program development and evidence based practices. Dr. Strickland joined Focus Mental Health in May of 2017 and is actively evaluating patients at Sunrise Hospital.
